The M-01 was not Tamiya's first front-wheel-drive onroad chassis -- that distinction went to the previous year's FF-01. It was, however, the first in a very successful line of "mini" chassis cars. This new size of vehicle was still intended to be 1/10th scale, but shorter and narrower than standard sedans in order to accomodate bodies of vehicles that were smaller in real life. Though sometimes referred to as a "FF" chassis layout, the M-01's motor is fully behind the front axle to allow very short body overhangs.
Pros: Scale appearance, very fun driving dynamics Cons: FWD limits power transfer to the ground, monoshock suspension promoted excessive body roll
