Introduced in 1990 as the Manta Ray, the DF01 platform has proven one of the most lasting and versatile in the Tamiya lineup. A number of buggy versions were released, but equally notable was the ABS-bodied Humvee that was much loved by scale enthusiasts. In 2007, the DF01 struck again with the release of the Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia edition in XB form. What's probably most noteworthy about the DF01 is that with a handful of new components, it spawned the TA-01 onroad chassis, which in turn single-handedly birthed the vast universe of "touring cars."
Pros: Versatile, carlike proportions for scale realistic body options, open chassis layout rife for customization Cons: A-arms too short in buggy form, chassis traps dirt
